Musicology and Ethnomusicology

A program that focuses on the systematic study of the forms and methods of music art, and the functions of music, in Western and non-Western societies and cultures. Includes instruction in music theory, musicological research methods, and studies of specific cultural styles such as jazz, folk music, rock, ethnic musical traditions, and the music of non-Western cultures.

For all the 145 degrees awarded in Musicology and Ethnomusicology per year, the majority of them are Doctors degree research scholarship. Of the 33 students earning degrees at the Bachelors degree level across the US, 42% percent identify as women and 58% percent identify as men. While students at schools all over the US study Musicology and Ethnomusicology, California has the most graduates.
