Under the student loan forgiveness program, if you complete a certain number of years in certain jobs, you are no longer expected to repay the balance of your loan. These are some of the jobs that may qualify you for student loan forgiveness:
- Certain full-time public service careers such as law enforcement and correctional officers, family and child services employees, and public defenders.
- Graduates working in legal careers can earn student loan forgiveness. That’s in addition to other loan repayment programs if they meet certain conditions.
- Doctors in need of student loan repayment help have access to various forgiveness programs.
- Special education teachers and teachers in low-income school districts or teacher-shortage areas may qualify under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program.
- The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program offers student loan repayment to Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) facility nurses who have completed a 2-year service commitment.
- Several volunteer organizations offer student loan forgiveness after completion of their specified term of service.
- Federal agencies may offer student loan repayment assistance if they are finding it difficult to find qualified employees to fill open positions. Recipients of the loan forgiveness must sign a contract agreeing to work for the federal agency for a minimum of three years.
