If you are a strict vegan looking for vegan-friendly campuses, you are in luck. With more and more people turning over to veganism, an increasing number of colleges are going out of their way to make it easy for vegan students to follow this strict diet that excludes any food derived from animals or animal products.
These vegan-friendly campuses made our list not just for offering a wide variety of vegan dishes within the campus itself, but also for its diverse vegan fare easily available in the community.
Wellesley College
With five dining halls, all of which change menus daily and still manage to offer at least one delicious vegan dish with every meal, you’ll be spoiled for choice at the Wellesley College campus. Meal choices include dishes as diverse as eggplant meatballs, vegan pasta, and black-bean burgers. Outside the campus, just a short drive away, are several restaurants that have a variety of vegan meals on their menu.
University Of Colorado Boulder
University of Colorado, Boulder goes out of their way to cater to vegan students. For vegan students at this college, the biggest challenge is probably choosing what to eat. Every dining hall on campus offers students more than fifty vegan meal options to choose from, every single day of the week. Vegan students can choose from hummus wraps, and three-bean chili for their main meal, and vegan chocolate chunk cookies for dessert. And that’s just naming three of the fifty available options.
Oberlin College
Oberlin College deserves special mention as a vegan-friendly campus with 4 cafes that offer an extensive vegan menu at every meal. Highlights on the menu include dishes such as tofu and beans, vegan sandwiches and pizzas, and fruit smoothies. If you decide to take a break from the dining hall food, just a short distance away from the campus is the TreeHuggers café, known for their delicious protein, hummus, and veggie wraps.
University of North Carolina at Asheville
With an unprecedented choice of vegan dishes, ranging from spicy tofu scramble, vegan grits, and maple pancakes for breakfast, to Chimichurri Charred Cauliflower, vegan chops for lunch, vegans are in for a treat at the UNC Asheville campus. The Brown Dining Hall is particularly renowned for their exceptional vegan meals.
Warren Wilson College
No list of vegan-friendly campuses could be complete without mentioning Warren Wilson College. This relatively small college has an entire café that serves only vegan and vegetarian meals, ranging from humble dishes such as stir fried vegetables to more exotic dishes such as beet hummus pita.
The only downside is that the vegan café is only open on weekdays, but that does not mean you will be left without any options on weekends. Plant and Nectar, two health-focused cafes located just 15 minutes away from campus, offer a variety of flavorful vegan foods and cold-pressed juices. You can even indulge in your love for tacos and guacamole without giving up your vegan diet. Nectar takes its once step further by offering cooking classes so you can learn how to make your own vegan dishes when you are back in your dorm room.
