There are three major types of campus tours, one of them: an open house tour. Many colleges put on open houses for students to check out the campus, talk to current students or faculty members, and meet other prospective students. An open house can be an exciting and informative event to learn about the school you are interested in.
Why an open house tour?
College open houses can be especially beneficial for prospective students who may be thinking about attending a school where they will know no one. Open houses tend to be packed events. There are many opportunities to get to know the other students visiting the school. Besides meeting other prospective students, you will have the chance to visit with current students. This can be a great way to learn about college classes, what living on campus is like, and what student life is like in general.

Open houses usually have a schedule with a variety of events for students to check out. This is great because it gives you the autonomy to pick out what is important to you during this visit. For example, if you know what you want to major in this can be a convenient time to talk to a faculty member of that department.
Try out the food.
Another small perk of an open house is the chance to check out the food on campus. Since they are typically day-long events, the school will offer some sort of food option to those visiting, or you can always check out the local off-campus restaurants. While it may not seem like that big of a deal, it is nice to know what is easily accessible to students at that school.
