You’ve received your college acceptance letter and cannot wait for the semester to begin. Meanwhile, your days are packed with trying to catch up with friends and making the most of those last few unscheduled days. Regardless of how much you have going on, you are going to have to find some time to pack for college. So how much time do you really need to get all packed and ready to go and when should you start?

While the best time for you will depend on your schedule and your individual preference, these few tips will help you stay on top of things:

Start Early – At Least a Few Weeks In Advance

Ideally you should start about two weeks before you move into your dorm or apartment. This will give you more than enough preparation time to find what you need without the last-minute stress. It’ll also give you plenty of time to go shopping for anything you don’t already have. Try and finish up your packing at least a few days early as those last days can get quite emotional, and the last thing you want to deal with is something as mundane as packing.

Cannot Start Early? At Least Prepare Your Checklist

If you are busy at work, taking a course, or going off on vacation and cannot get started packing weeks in advance, at least start making your checklist. It doesn’t have to be long or detailed, but it should contain a list of items you will need. If you take time to make your checklist in advance, you can get all of your packing done in a few days without worrying if you are missing anything.
