Many students look forward to relaxing, traveling, and doing everything else but working or studying during vacation. However, high achieving college students do things slightly differently. They make long term plans and use their vacation time doing things that will give them a competitive edge when it is time to look for a job.

Here are three things high achieving college students do during their summer break:

Do an Internship

Internships allow students the opportunity to get a first-hand, behind the scenes look at a career. This helps them make a more informed decision about their career choice and it also gives their resume a tremendous boost.

Take Summer Courses

Taking college classes during the summer—whether online on campus—is a great way to either catch up or get ahead of needed credit hours. If students plan on graduating in four years it’s important to manage their class requirements, and taking on classes during the summer is one great way to do just that.

Find a Summer Job

Making money during the break is a great way to pay back those student loans faster so they have less debt after graduation. While finding an office job, even a temporary one, during the break, can be difficult, there are several other odd jobs that can help them earn some money. Some ideas include babysitting, pet-walking, and lawn-mowing.

This can also include freelancing jobs. There is a great demand for freelance writers, graphic designers, and web developers. These pay pretty well and the beauty of it is students can take on as much or as little work as they want during summer break.

The important thing that high achieving college students do is they plan in advance about the many things they can do to make the best of the break time.
