It’s time to take your standardized college tests. But, you’ve discovered your high school doesn’t host the ACT or SAT you wanted to take and have studied for. What now? It’s important to research and know your options for testing locations before you sign up for SAT/ACT or the other.
Check With Your School District
Even if your high school only hosts the ACT or the SAT, it may not be the case for your entire school district. Signing up online is the easiest way to discover what schools within your district hold the exam, but if you can’t seem to find one in your area, ask your high school counselor. They may know which school hosts the SAT or ACT or have further advice.
Check Other Local School Districts
After you’ve checked with the other schools within your area and district, if none of them host the standardized test you wanted to take, it’s time to broaden your search. If there are other school districts within driving distance, you will be able to see them on the SAT or ACT sign up list. In the case they’re not listed there, check with your counselor. They will be able to direct you in the right direction or talk to the other districts to see what they host.
Consider Taking The Other Option
If you were hoping to take the ACT yet can’t find any testing locations nearby, you may not have another option in your area other than the SAT. This may especially be the case if you live in a rural area. Although you studied for the ACT or vice versa, you may be restricted and have to take your less desired option.
However, you may discover down the line that your school or another local program hosts your desired exam. If that’s the case, you may want to take it anyway, even if you’ve already taken the other.
Ask Your School About Hosting the Exam
If your school doesn’t host the ACT or SAT and you’re interested in taking one or the other, you may want to consider asking your school or the district about the possibility of adding it to their schedule. Both administrators of the tests have information online on how the school can host it at their location. Ask your teacher or the administrators of the district about the possibility.
For more information on hosting the ACT at your school, visit their website. Educators can also learn more about hosting the SAT on College Board’s website.
In most cases, you will be able to find schools in your district or within driving distance that host the SAT, the ACT, or even both. If you’re having trouble locating a hosting school, ask your teachers or high school counselors for assistance. They may be able to help you sign up for your desired exam or possibly become the host of the exam for your area.
