While it certainly isn’t as common as being admitted in the fall, spring admissions are options at many colleges and universities across the country. Put simply, it means that students are admitted to a school for the spring semester. This is generally a smaller admittance pool. With some schools, students can indicate that they would prefer to start in the spring. At other schools, it is purely based on the school wanting to admit more students. At many schools, students often transfer, study abroad, or drop-out after their first semester, leaving room in the residence halls for new residents.
Things To Do Before the Spring Semester
For students that do wait until spring to start college, there are a variety of things you can do in the meantime to prepare for college. Consider getting a full- or part-time job to help you save money. Let’s face it—it’s easy to spend money while in college, and having extra on hand can be nice. You could also think about taking classes at your local community college. This can be a great way to complete general education courses.
Another way to spend your time could even be through volunteering for causes you care about. Or, shadow people with jobs you are interested in studying. Yes, it may sound fun to hang out and do nothing all day for a semester. However, you’ll thank yourself in the long run for getting out there and spending your time doing things that can bring more meaning to your life.
Keep in mind that the admission dates will likely vary from school to school for the spring semester. Don’t fret if you are admitted to the spring—think of all of the different ways you can spend your fall!
