State Grants for Oklahoma for College Students

For students planning to go to college in Oklahoma, the state has several different grants and scholarship programs to help make school more affordable. Keep reading to learn more about Oklahoma’s Promise, military scholarships, academic scholarships, and others.

Oklahoma State Grants for College Students

1. Oklahoma’s Promise

Oklahoma’s Promise is a program dedicated to helping Oklahoma students better afford college. Applicants need to meet certain income, academic, and conduct requirements to apply. If granted, the award pays regular tuition at public institutions and a portion of the tuition if the student chooses to attend a private school instead. It does not cover fees or other expenses.

To apply, students must:

  • Complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Be enrolled in the program at some point between 8th and 11th grade.
  • Have a federal adjusted gross income less than $100,000.
  • Attend college within 3 years of graduating high school (there are exceptions for active military).
  • Meet the academic expectations set by the college in order to continue receiving aid.
  • Submit their application by July 1st.

2. Academic Scholars Program

The Academic Scholars Program can help students pay for tuition, room and board, books, and other fees for up to 8 semesters of college. The award amount granted depends on the school. 

In order to qualify, Oklahoma students must:

  • Be named a National Merit Scholar, National Merit Finalist, or United States Presidential Scholar. OR
  • Score at or above the 99.5 percentile on the SAT or ACT. OR
  • Be nominated by their college for the program.
  • Be attending college full time.
  • Maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher.

3. Regional University Baccalaureate Scholarship

For students attending a participating public university in Oklahoma, there is the Regional University Baccalaureate Scholarship. This scholarship can grant $3,000 and a resident tuition waiver to the recipient and it can be used for up to eight semesters. Students can gain eligibility by having an ACT score of 30 or higher or by being named a National Merit Semifinalist or Commended Student.

4. George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship

Planning on entering a career in public service? Then the George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship should be on your radar. Awarded on a yearly basis, winners can receive $1,000 to be put towards their education. 

Applicants must be nominated by their participating college and:

  • Be enrolled full-time.
  • Be enrolled in a degree program that will lead to a career in public service (this is determined by the college).
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.
