4 Scholarships for Muslim Students

Islam is the third-largest faith represented in the United States and growing. Even so, Islam is still considered a religious minority and is often misrepresented or under-represented in the media. Fortunately, a number of organizations and scholarship foundations help Muslim students pursue a college education. Here are just a few scholarship opportunities for students of the Islamic faith.

Aziz Jamaluddin Scholarship

Amount: $4,000

Deadline: February 28, 2020

This scholarship, awarded to students of Islamic faith pursuing degrees in Journalism and/or Political Science, was founded on the hope that an educated generation could communicate the true message of Islam across many forms of media.

To be eligible, the student must: have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, demonstrate financial need, be an American citizen, be majoring in Journalism or PoliSci, submit two letters of recommendation, and answer a short essay question.

Dr. Abdus Saleem Family Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

Deadline: February 28, 2020

Awarded based on academic achievement, leadership experience, and volunteer work, this scholarship awards students majoring in one of the following areas: medical technology, oil and energy, computer science, journalism, or business administration.

Requirements: US citizenship, a GPA of 3.5 or higher, entering Freshman year of college, submit the FAFSA, provide 2 letters of recommendation.

ISF National Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: March 21, 2020

The Islamic Scholarship Fund addresses the under-representation of American Muslims in certain fields and occupations, especially those that influence public policy.

Currently enrolled in an accredited university, majoring in a field supported by the ISF, such as journalism, anthropology, law, linguistics, and public policy among others, may apply.

Dr. Abdulmunim A. Shakir Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: February 28, 2020

The objective of this scholarship is to aid students and help them financially through their first year of college. The scholarship gives priority to those with a record of academic excellence, volunteer work, and leadership experience.

Current seniors in high school entering their freshman year of college may apply for this scholarship. Additionally, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a US citizen, provide 2 letters of recommendation, demonstrate financial need.
