5 Scholarships for Nursing Students

Nurses are an integral part of our society and we need them more than ever. It is one of the fastest-growing occupations in the US, with an estimated number of jobs at 2,751,000 in 2014, and growing faster than average at 16%, according to the Bureau of Labors Statistics. If you have a passion for caring for other people, an interest in science, and the ability to handle intense situations, nursing may be for you! Nursing school is rigorous. We want to help relieve some of that stress, and have found scholarships for nursing students to help you pay for school!

ACF Barnes W. Rose, Jr. and Eva Rose Nichol Scholarship Program

Deadline: April 2, 2020

Amount: $700

This scholarship awards women planning to pursue a degree in the STEM profession- science, technology, engineering, and math. Eligible students must have a 3.6 GPA, demonstrate financial need, pursue a STEM degree, have a reference from a high school math or science teacher, and submit a personal essay.

CastleBranch-GNSA Scholarship

Deadline: September 30; December 30

Amount: $2,500

The CastleBranch-GNSA Scholarship awards graduate nursing students furthering their education to better the nursing field. The winner will receive two $2,500 awards per semester, with a total of four awards overall. This generous scholarship does come with some strict qualifications though; students need at least a 3.5 GPA and write a 500-word essay on how they have contributed to the nursing field.

National Black Nurses Association Scholarship Program

Deadline: April 15, 2020

Amount: Varies

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) provides annual scholarships to students pursuing a career in nursing. The NBNA offers a wide variety of scholarships every year that have varying award amounts. But, students just need to fill out a general application. Interested students must complete the application and submit their transcript, two letters of recommendation, a headshot, a written essay, and any other supplementary materials.

Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association General Scholarships

Deadline: TBD for 2021 (Opens September 2020)

Amount: $1,000-7,500

The FNSNA awards scholarships to students currently enrolled in a state-approved nursing program. Students enrolled or accepted into a nursing program must showcase their academic achievement, financial need, and involvement with medical care-related organizations and volunteer work.

Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31

Amount: $5,000

This scholarship is supported by CastleBranch and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. To be eligible, you must have a 3.2 GPA and be accepted or enrolled in a baccalaureate program that is an affiliated AACN school. The application is an online form that includes an essay.
