EMPOWER Scholarships

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: April 15

Designed to encourage ethnically diverse students in the fields of medicine and rehabilitation, this scholarship offers aid to those willing to pursue higher education. The selection process is based on the student’s class ranking and academic achievement.

To be eligible, students must: be ethnically diverse, be a resident of Minnesota or attending school there (also eligible for students in Western Wisconsin), pursue a career in healthcare, have at least a 2.0 GPA, and also demonstrate financial need.

Minnesota Academic Excellence Scholarship

Amount: Varies (renewable)

Deadline: Contact your school

For students who have demonstrated academic excellence, this scholarship awards financial aid for them to attend a Minnesota university or college. Subjects include English or creative writing, fine arts, foreign language, math, science, social studies.

To apply, students must: enroll full-time in a nonsectarian, baccalaureate degree-granting program, and also attend one of the colleges/universities participating in the program. Look on their site to see which schools participate in the program.

Minnesota Indian Scholarship

Amount: $4,000 / $6,000 (renewable)

Deadline: July 1

For Minnesota students who are at least 1/4 Native American, this scholarship offers financial aid for post-secondary education. To undergraduates, the award can be $4,000 per year; for also graduate students, that amount bumps up to $6,000.

To be eligible, students must: be 1/4 or more Native American, be a resident of Minnesota, demonstrate financial need, and also enrolled in an accredited college/university/vocational school in Minnesota.

Page Education Foundation Grants

Amount: $1,000 – $2,500

Deadline: May 1

This unique opportunity, awarded to Minnesota students of color, requires the award-winners to participate in yearly special events with young children. Offered to students of all academic achievement levels, the grant also encourages students to tutor k-8th grade.

To apply, students must: be a student of color and a graduate of a Minnesota high school, enrolled full-time at a Minnesota college/university, and also be willing to complete 50 hours of youth volunteer work.

PFund Scholarship

Amount: $2,000-$10,000

Deadline: April 30, 2020

This scholarship is for students who show leadership in LGBTQ communities and who wish to pursue higher education. The organization seeks to inspire courage in future leaders by assisting financially.

To be eligible, students must: be an LGBTQ or allied student, be a legal resident of Minnesota or attending a qualifying Minnesota academic institute, and also enrolled in the following fall academic term.
