Most scholarships can be neatly divided by specific categories. There are scholarships for the everyday student, for specific majors, for athletes, for minorities–the list goes on. But there are also some wacky, out-of-the-box scholarships available. Here are six more unique scholarships.

National Potato Council Scholarship

Amount: $10,000

Deadline: Mid-June, Annual (Opens Spring 2020)

Are you an avid potato fan? Do you spend your time devising ways to grow potatoes better? Then this is the scholarship for you!

Requirements: You’re a graduate-level student potato researcher. Must explain in less than 200 words how your research will benefit the potato industry.

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest

Amount: $500-$2,000

Deadline: TBD for 2020

Are you a duck-whisperer? Do you think in quacks? Then this is the perfect opportunity to show off your skills. The Stuttgart, AK, contest awards the top four duck callers the scholarship. Contestants will have to display four different calls: hail, feed, come back, and mating.

Requirements: Must be a high school senior. Must provide a high school transcript and photo ID at registration.

Gamers Helping Gamers Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: March 31, Annually

The scholarship is for those who have a deep appreciation of Magic: The Gathering. The scholarship is in remembrance of Alex Poger, a dedicated gamer who made the gaming world a better place.

Requirements: Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student. Must provide a completed FAFSA, a high school transcript, and an essay answering four questions about Magic.

Make Me Laugh Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: August 31, 2020

In an attempt to make the scholarship hunt a little more fun, this scholarship is asking exactly what the title suggests: Make the committee laugh. For you class clowns out there, now is your chance to tell a funny or embarrassing life story (with some embellishments if you want) for the chance to earn college money.

Requirements: Must be at least 13 years of age. Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary school no later than Fall 2022 or currently enrolled. Must be a legal resident of the US. Essays must be 250 words or less.

Superpower Scholarship

Amount: $2,500

Deadline: March 31, 2020

What would you do if you could trade places with your favorite superhero? Now you have a chance to earn a scholarship based on your answer!

Requirements: Must be at least 13 years of age. Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary school no later than Fall 2023, or you can also be currently enrolled. Must be a legal resident of the US. Essays must be 250 words or less.

Shout It Out Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: September 30, 2020

If you could say anything to the world today, what would it be? This scholarship gives you the opportunity to say it. Topics can cover anything that the applicant can think of.

Requirements: Must be at least 13 years of age. Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary school no later than Fall 2022, or you can also be currently enrolled. Must be a legal resident of the US. Essays must be 250 words or less.
