Scholarships for dogs and their owners can be great ways to showcase your love for dogs, whether it’s your own or in general.

Here are a few tail-wagging opportunities for the dog-lover scholar.

Amount: $2,500

Deadline: May 1

Rover, the pet-sitting and dog-walking app, is hosting a scholarship for one person to win $2,500 towards their education. All this scholarship requires is a response to a question in 400-500 words! High school seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students are eligible for this scholarship as long as they have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

They are looking for responses that share your personal dog or pet-loving stories and how they have made you who you are today.

The Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program

Amount: $20,000

Deadline: January 15

Chewy, in collaboration with the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges, is hosting a scholarship opportunity and will be giving out $300,000 in scholarships, each $20,000. They will reward 15 third-year students with $20,000 in scholarship money for their education.

Their goal is to increase representation in the veterinary profession. They are targeted at helping underserved communities who might not have access or have limited access to resources to attend veterinary medical colleges.

Dog iD Scholarship Program

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: December 31

This scholarship is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and high school seniors. It does not require a certain GPA. To have the chance to be awarded this scholarship, all you have to do is write a 500-word essay. You have four different options for essay topics and get to select which one you’d like to write about. These are the topics:

  • Paws for a Cause: How Pets Can Make a Difference in Our Communities
  • The Power of Unconditional Love: The Special Bond Between Pet Owners and Their Pets
  • Four-Legged Fitness: How Pets Can Help Keep Us Active
  • Responsible Pet Ownership: Caring for Your Pet with Love

After writing your essay, don’t forget to send it by email as a Word attachment with your full name, address, phone number, school name, and date of birth.

Some scholarships are now using AI detection tools to detect if what you’ve submitted is actually written by you or if it was written using AI software. So be sure to do your own writing, as it may sound way more heartfelt and sincere when it comes from your own voice.
