Below are three scholarships to help you start searching.

Restaurant Association of Maryland Scholarships

Amount: Varies

Deadline: March 20, 2020

The Restaurant Association of Maryland offers multiple scholarships related to the restaurant and hospitality industry. All scholarships offered by the association requires students to either be a senior in high school or already in college. Additionally, only Maryland residents may apply (as well as Washington DC, Virginia, and Delaware students for select scholarships).

Academic Merit Scholarships

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: April 6

The American Bus Association (ABA) hosts the Academic Merit Scholarship. Each year, two awards are given. The winning students receive $5,000 each.

The scholarship requires you to be studying in specific hospitality fields. For example, transportation, tourism, and travel. In addition, you need a 3.4 GPA or higher. Both undergraduate and graduate students can apply. Additionally, you don’t have to be an ABA member to apply.

Applications are due between December 7th and April 6th.

Helen Brett Scholarship

Amount: Up to $5,000

Deadline: June 1, 2020

If you are planning to study exhibition or event management, the Helen Brett Scholarship is right up your alley. The award gives up to $5,000 to the winner. Additionally, applying may earn you an internship experience. Helen Brett, who paved the way in the exhibition industry, is remembered through this scholarship hosted by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE).

To qualify for the Helen Brett Scholarship, students need a 3.0 GPA or higher and be enrolled as a full-time student. And, of course, complete the application. Your application needs to include four items: first, your resume. Second, any official transcripts. Third, two letters of recommendation. Finally, an essay that describes your career goals in reference to your major.

Scholarships are an absolute must for any student going into or already in college. These awards can make your dream school much more easily affordable. Even better, these scholarships can lead to internships or careers later in your life. To find more scholarships relating to hospitality, make sure to get in touch with your guidance counselor in high school. Or, if you’re in college, talk to your school’s financial aid office for more help. In addition, don’t forget to check online scholarship databases. There are plenty of potential scholarships out there! You’ll never know how many you qualify for without looking.
