The National Hydropower Association Past Presidents’ Legacy Scholarship Program
Amount: $2,500

Fascinated with hydropower? Do you dream of being part of the U.S. hydropower industry? The National Hydropower Association offers a scholarship of $2,500 annually to students who are planning to pursue a career in this field.
The scholarship is open to current college sophomores or juniors enrolled in a full-time undergrad or grad program in a 4-year college or university and to students enrolled at accredited vocational or technical schools or programs. Only students studying sciences such as hydrology, biology or fisheries, engineering, environmental studies, or any other program related to the hydropower industry are eligible for this award.
You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to apply. Your submission must include your high school transcripts and a 2-page essay highlighting your interest in the hydropower industry.
Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: December 31, annually
Starting out at community college and then transferring to a 4-year institution is a great way to earn a geography degree at a fraction of the cost. Winning this scholarship means you will pay even less.
The AAG or American Association of Geographers funds the Darrel Hess Community College Geography Scholarship. The association awards two scholarships every year to undergraduate students currently studying geography through a US Community college. The two successful applicants win $1,500 scholarships for their education in geography.
Applicants must have completed at least 2 transfer courses with plans to transfer to a 4-year college or university in the coming academic year.
All applications must include 2 recommendation letters written by college instructors. The organization chooses winners based on academic excellence, overall quality of the application and demonstrated financial need.
AWG Minority Scholarship
Amount: $6,000
Deadline: June 30, annually
The Association for Women Geoscientists established the AWG Minority scholarship to provide financial assistance to young minority women, pursuing an education and later a career in the geosciences. Applicants must meet a specific set of requirements to qualify for this award. Those who do will receive substantial help, not just financially but also by way of mentorship.
Only Hispanic, African-American, and Native American women are eligible to apply for the AWG Minority Scholarship. All applicants must be full-time undergraduate students in an accredited 4-year institution. Those enrolled in a geosciences program, studying any of these fields—geochemistry, geophysics, oceanography, geology, meteorology, planetary geology, hydrology, or earth science education — may apply.
You must submit two recommendation letters with your application. One of these letters must be written by a geosciences, geography, or earth science teacher. Along with the recommendation letters, you will also have a submit a letter written by your academic advisor stating that you plan on pursuing an education in earth science or geosciences.
AAGS Joseph F. Dracup Scholarship Award
Amount: $2,000
Deadline: TBD for 2021
The American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS) offers a $2,000, non-renewable scholarship to students interested in pursuing a career in geodetic surveying, geomatics, or surveying engineering.
Your application for this scholarship must be accompanied by your high school transcripts and two recommendation letters. You must also include an essay emphasizing why you deserve the $2,000 award. Applications are assessed based on academic excellence, professional activities, recommendation letters and quality of the essay. If two applications are tied, financial need is considered to decide on the winner of the award.
