Scholarships for Girl Scouts

Many colleges and universities across the United States go out of their way to offer scholarships specifically to Girl Scout Gold Award winners. Are you a Girl Scout? More specifically, did you earn the Girl Scout Gold Award for a special achievement? Then you should use this opportunity to get free money towards your college tuition. Here are just few of many scholarships for Girl Scouts.

Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $1,500 (renewable up to $6,000)

Deadline: May 15, 2020

The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation awards scholarships to young women. Specifically, those who plan to or are currently pursuing a major or minor in a foreign language. Only students with the Girls Scout Silver or Gold Award are eligible to apply. The scholarship is an annual, renewable award of $1,500. It also asks for a letter of recommendation written by a Girl Scout staff or volunteer within the past 6 months. Additionally, applicants need to write an essay on a specified topic and show documentation to prove they received the Award.

Recipients can renew the award every year for a maximum award of $6,000 over four years. However, they need to meet the continuation requirements. This includes maintaining a B or better GPA overall, and a 3.0 GPA in the foreign language.

Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York

Amount: Varies

Deadline: Automatic

Hofstra University awards scholarships to Girl Scout Gold Award recipients. As long as that the Award was won within 3 years prior to applying, you qualify. When applying for this scholarship, you will be required to submit a copy of your gold award certificate along with a letter from the Girl Scouts stating the date of the award.

Freshmen students must have earned a minimum composite score of 23 on ACT or 1140 on the SAT. Additionally, they must be in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.

Transfer students applying for the scholarship must have completed at least 24 credits and have a 3.5 GPA or higher at all the schools they had were previously at.

The scholarship amount varies and is renewable each year, as long as the student meets the requirements.

The University of Tennessee at Martin

Amount: $800 (renewable up to $3,200)

Deadline: Varies

Are you are a recipient of Girl Scouts of America Gold Award and are applying to the University of Tennessee at Martin? You may be eligible to apply for their renewable $800 scholarship then. The eligibility criteria include a 3.0 GPA minimum in high school and a 21 ACT composite score. Winners must live in university housing.

To renew the award, you must keep a 3.0 GPA at the end of each spring semester.

Alternatively, talk to your local Girl Scout troop, high school counselor, or college financial aid office. Remember, you may qualify for multiple scholarships, as long as you look!
