Known as the Silver State, Nevada is home to beautiful scenery and exciting history. The state also houses numerous colleges and universities. If you’re a student pursuing a higher education in Nevada, check out some of these Nevada scholarships.

Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship Program

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: April 6, 2020

The organization rewards this scholarship to college students who want to teach in Nevada elementary and secondary schools after graduation. Administered by the State Treasurer, this opportunity is perfect for those entering their last year of school.

The program wants applicants to meet some requirements. First, they need to be a senior/in their final year of college/university. They also need a 3.5 or higher GPA and are enrolled in a program for elementary or secondary education. Lastly, they have a commitment to teaching in Nevada after graduation and want to be involved in the community.

The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation: Advancement of Women in Sports and Entertainment Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: June 14, 2020 (Fall 2020); November 17, 2020 (Spring 2021)

There’s no doubt that sports and entertainment industries underrepresent women. The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation seeks to change that fact. The organization awards women who want to get involved in a sports or entertainment-related profession. In turn, the scholarship helps finance their higher education.

To be eligible, students must meet a few requirements. First, students need to be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. They are also enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university and demonstrate financial need as well. Students must also identify as female. Finally, students are majoring in one of the following majors: Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies, Marketing, or Journalism.

CNRA: The Jack Hughes Education Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Deadline: June 15

The California Nevada Racquetball Association also provides a scholarship to students who have a desire to expand the sport.

To be eligible, the student must: be a USAR member at the time of application, be accomplished in the sport, and also fill out the application.

Nevada Women’s Fund Scholarship

Amount: $500 – $5,000

Deadline: TBD for 2021

The NWF Scholarships also target women residents. Specifically, students attending northern Nevada schools. However, the scholarship also considers students pursuing programs elsewhere.

Eligible students are: women students taking at least 6-8 credit hours at a northern Nevada college/university, enrolled in an accredited 2-4 year degree/certifying program, and also maintaining at least a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Silver State Opportunity Grant Program

Amount: Varies

Deadline: First-come, first-serve basis

Designed for low-income, college-ready students, this program offers financial aid to those who need it. The NSHE Board of Regent awards students based on their own formula. The grant program reserves awards for students attending one of the community or state colleges in the Nevada System of Higher Education.

To apply, students must complete and file the FAFSA, enroll in at least 15 credit hours, be college-ready, and also be a resident of Nevada.
