The organization awards these scholarships to American students studying abroad in Japan. Overall, they give out around 100 scholarships per year to deserving students. Generally, applications are accepted two times throughout the year. The amount awarded is $2,500 for semester-long programs and $4,000 for academic year programs.
Department of Education Scholarship for Programs in China

Deadline: April 1 (Summer and Fall); October 15 (Winter and Spring)
The Department of Education offers several scholarships ranging from $500-8,000 to study abroad with a CIEE program. For example, Peking University in Bejing, Nanjing University, East China Normal University in Shanghai, and National Chengchi University in Taipei. Eligibility varies. Freeman Asia is a scholarship funded by a private foundation in Honolulu, HI.
