A program that focuses on the history, sociology, politics, culture, and economics of one or more of the American Indian, Aleut, Inuit, Hawaiian and other native peoples of the Americas from earliest times until the present, with particular emphasis on U.S. and Canadian populations and their problems but including reference to Caribbean and Latin American native peoples.
While American Indian/Native American Studies has degrees up to the Masters degree, most students study towards a Masters degree. Students major in American Indian/Native American Studies all over the country, though the major at the Associates degree level sees the most graduates in Hawaii. The average starting salary for a graduate with a bachelor's degree in American Indian/Native American Studies is $42,750.
